Kids Helping Kids - A Rousing Success

Pictured here with Mr. Irving Nelson, Director of the Navajo Nation Libraries, and Mr. Everett Etsitty, library staff member, Rockwall County 4-H members celebrate the success of Kids Helping Kids at the concluding event for this 4-H community service project.  As a result of the efforts of Rockwall County 4-H members, their families and friends, local schools including Rochell Elementary School, Hartman Elementary School, Utley Middle School, Royse City Middle School, The Fulton School, and Lakeland Academy, and with the support of local community partners including: Boys and Girls Club of Rockwall, Rockwall County Library, Dr. Holly Fisher-Britt, Amazing Athletes, Dr. Bart Miller, The Storage Locker, Heath City Hall, Roma’s Preread Books, Half Price Books, Costco, Wal-Mart, and Hilton Bella Harbor, more than 7000 children’s books were donated to the children of the Navajo Nation.  Mr. Nelson and Mr. Etsitty traveled from Window Rock, Arizona, to collect these books and, while in Rockwall, presented a program about the history of the Navajo Nation to 4-H members and their families, and local schools. Community service projects such as Kids Helping Kids provide youth the opportunity to participate in activities that develop leadership, initiative, self-reliance, compassion, and respect for cultural diversity while teaching valuable life skills.  Pictured from left to right are: Back Row – Katie Callaghan, Heather Rowe; Middle Row – Emily Ullom, Hannah Barber, Kailey Burr, Sarah Boronkay, Mr. Irving Nelson, Mr. Everitt Etsitty, Emily Carrell; Front Row –Allison Barber, Katie Marcantel, Kelly Shy Hurley, Ryan Ullom, Brian Callaghan, Trevor Rowe.
