It's Party Time

It's party time and we hope to see you at Harry Meyers Recreation Center on June 6th at our 4-H Summer Party.  We’ll get together from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and have pizza for everyone.  The cost is $7.00 per family and each family is asked to bring their own drinks and a dessert to share.  Each club is also asked to plan a group activity that expresses the theme of their club.  For example, Rockin Riders might plan stick horse races……

Please RSVP and let us know how many people will attend from your family so we can be sure to have enough pizza.

RSVP deadline is Friday, June 3rd.
See You There!

Busy Bees 4-H Completes Dog Project

Jennifer Peters, Busy Bees 4-H Dog Project Leader, and her 4-H graduates from Basic Dog Training 2011.  The group has been working hard to develop basic skills with their dogs.  This training helps not only the dogs to be better companions, but it also aids the young people in being better owners.  We appreciate Ms. Peters for her awesome work.  Congratulations to the young people.  Hallelujah for the dog - they can have a fun summer now.

Quality County Verification for Major Stock Show Livestock Participants

Quality Counts Verification is now active and ready to be used!  Moving forward into the 2011-2012 Major Show Season, Quality Counts Verification will be a part of the process for entry in all major shows.  This means youth exhibitors will need to demonstrate their knowledge of the Six Pillars of Character and the Eight Core Concepts presented in the Quality Counts Curriculum. To do this, they will need to pass an online test on the website ( http://qualitycounts.tamu.edu/ ) and acquire a Quality Counts Verification number.

Things you need to know about Verification:
* 2011 - State Fair of Texas will implement Quality Counts Verificatio
n on a voluntary basis.
* 2012 - All Major Livestock Shows in Texas will require Quality Counts Verification at the time of entry - This means youth will need to be verified prior to entry in the fall of 2011.
* A Verification number is obtained by answering 80% of the questions correctly on an online test.

The Quality Counts website ( http://qualitycounts.tamu.edu/ ) will serve as your portal to the online test, Verification Records, and educational resources related to Quality Counts.  From this website, you can access all of the Quality Counts curriculum and various Powerpoint presentations for use.  Leaders can use these to educate themselves prior to teaching the curriculum.  It can then be used with livestock exhibitors and local support groups as well as other o organizations.

"For the Record" - Record Book Tutorial

If you weren't able to attend Recordbook Training at the Extension office on May 17th, you can still watch the power point program "For the Record" that was developed by 4-H specialist, Cheryl Newberry.  Log onto the Texas 4-H webpage at http://texas4-h.tamu.edu and click on the link for Online Learning.  You'll find "For the Record" at the top of the list of modules of Youth Focused Trainings.  The presentation lasts about 20 minutes and provides useful information about preparing a good recordbook.

To get all of the needed forms for your recordbook go to
http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/publications/recordbook/index.php

Remember that County Recordbooks are due no later than June 17, 5:p.m.   If you applying for the Gold Star, Silver Star, or I Dare You Award, you must submit your application with your recordbook.  Applications can be found at http://rockwall-tx.tamu.edu/publications/goldstar_silverstar_idareyou.pdf
